7 Signs Your Business Website Is Outdated
Your website doesn’t have to be completely redesigned every year but it should continue to support your business, reflect your brand and make it easy for customers to find the information they need.
Sometimes an outdated website is obvious. Other times, the website may still look “okay,” but parts of it are no longer accurate, helpful or working as well as they should.
Here are seven signs it may be time to give your business website some attention.
1. Your Business Information Is No Longer Accurate
Have you changed your business hours, phone number, email address, location or services?
If your website still has old information, customers may become confused or have trouble reaching you. Even small updates can make a big difference in helping people get the right information quickly.
Your website should reflect where your business is today not where it was a few years ago.
2. Your Website Doesn’t Look Good on a Phone
Many people visit business websites from their phones. If visitors have to zoom in, scroll sideways or struggle to click buttons, they may leave before learning more about your business.
A mobile-friendly website should be easy to read and navigate on different screen sizes. Your contact information, services and call to action buttons should also be easy to find.
3. Your Services or Products Have Changed
Businesses grow and evolve. You may have added new services, removed old ones, changed your pricing or started offering something new.
If your website doesn’t reflect those changes, potential customers may not know everything you offer. Keeping your service pages and product information updated helps your website work as a more accurate sales and information tool for your business.
4. Your Website Still Uses Old Photos or Branding
Your business may have a new logo, updated colors, better photos or a more polished brand but does your website reflect that?
Old images can make your business feel less current even when your products or services are excellent. Updating your images, branding and website graphics can help create a more consistent experience across your website, social media, printed materials and other marketing.
5. Important Links or Forms Don’t Work
Broken links, outdated forms and error pages can create frustration for visitors.
If someone clicks a link and ends up on a “Page Not Found” screen or fills out a contact form that never reaches you, you could be missing opportunities without realizing it.
It’s a good idea to regularly test your website links, contact forms, buttons and booking pages to make sure everything is working properly.
6. Your Website Is Missing Recent Content
When was the last time you updated your website?
If your newest blog post is from several years ago, your portfolio shows old projects or your website still promotes an event that has already passed, it may be time for a refresh.
You don’t have to update every page every week. However, regularly adding or refreshing helpful content can show visitors that your business is active and continuing to grow.
7. You Avoid Sending People to Your Website
This may be one of the biggest signs.
If you feel embarrassed by your website, hesitate to share the link or find yourself saying, “I really need to update that,” your website may no longer represent your business the way you want it to.
Your website should be something you feel comfortable sharing. It should clearly explain what you offer, who you serve and how customers can take the next step.
Your Website May Not Need a Complete Redesign
An outdated website doesn’t always mean you need to start over.
Sometimes a few strategic updates can make a noticeable difference. Updating your content, services, photos, branding, contact information or calls to action may be enough to help your website feel more current and useful.
Your website should grow alongside your business. Keeping it updated helps customers find accurate information, understand what you offer and feel confident about contacting you.
